Yoga has been around for centuries and has been shown to have great physical and emotional qualities and is extremely beneficial for the body and mind.
Physical and mental stress shows that the body will have a lower oxygen intake and poor circulation. This can increase the body's level of stress, anxiety and pain. A programme of combined physical and mental yoga is of benefit for you should you want to:-
-
Strengthen and cleanse the body (especially the pelvic floor)
-
Increase flexibility and strength
-
Improve posture alignment
-
Increase circulation and lung capacity by providing cardiovascular workout
-
Can combat both psychological and physical stress
Hatha Yoga is an umbrella term for the type of yoga that focuses primarily on posture and breath. It is the form of yoga most commonly practiced in the West. Classes usually consist of limbering exercises, asanas (yoga postures), some pranayama (breath control) and breath awareness techniques, some meditation, some theory and philosophy, and relaxation. The benefits of practicing Hatha Yoga are that it works on body and mind to promote strength, suppleness and flexibility, along with a calm state of mind.
It is essential to work within your level of ability and to modify limbering exercises and asanas accordingly. If there are any doubts about practicing yoga in relation to health issues, it is advisable to consult your doctor.
