What is Ultrasound Scanning
Ultrasound scanning is a painless diagnostic test that uses sound waves to create images of organs and structures inside your body. We use it to help diagnose and monitor your musculoskeletal conditions such as Achilles tendonitis in the ankle and Rotator Cuff injuries in the shoulder to name but a few.
The only sensation you get is the cold sensation from the gel that is used to allow the scan to take place. The probe is covered in the gel and then run over the problem area. The probe sends pictures via the ultrasound waves to the monitor. The monitor then displays a picture of the area. The scan usually lasts about 15-20 minutes. Still pictures can be taken of the effected area.
